Adventura (aka Vinny)
Vinny is a very sweet boy who was found wandering in the woods in Georgia before being trapped and brought to the shelter. He was terrified & shut down. Vinny likely spent most of his life outdoors without socialization.
He is now in a foster home, learning what it means to be loved. Vinny needs an adopter with lots of patience who will go at his pace. He is timid and skittish with strangers, as a lot of things are new for him. He requires a home with older children only, so that he can have respectful space. He has not shown any aggression towards people, only fear of new people.
With time to warm up, Vinny is a typical chow- he wants to be near you on his own terms. He will scoot closer when he thinks he is not being watched, or will dart in to give a quick lick to show affection. While Vinny is not cuddly, he is starting to learn that pets and brushing feel good, and will lean in to ask for more. He is eager to please and wants to do the right thing.
Vinny loves other dogs and would benefit from having another dog in the home that can be his playmate. He has a gentle play style and is great at both initiating and taking cues.
He enjoys chewing on bones and playing with toys. He likes to gather his toys and put them in a spot that he considers his own but does not resource guard. When he is done playing, he settles easily & is content laying nearby another dog or familiar person.
Vinny is still working on leash training. If he has a yard, it must be a secure 6’ or taller fence - he is a flight risk. Frightened easily & would enjoy living in a quiet area, where he can have time to feel safe.

Rusty
Looking for a dog who is friendly, playful, easygoing AND easy to live with? Meet Rusty. This handsome reddish-tan boy is the total package. He loves people, does well with other well-adjusted dogs, is great with kids, and settles beautifully when the fun is over.
And his favorite thing in the world? SOCCER.

Rusty is a little mischievous, a little stubborn (because…Chow), and absolutely adorable. He may steal your towels for snuggling, dig a few holes, but is easily corrected and just wants to please his humans!
Cats and small animals? Nope. He thinks they are meant to be chased. Honestly, Rusty would make an excellent first dog for someone looking for a fun, social companion who is already doing so many things right.

SharPeyton Manning
Those wrinkles. That smile. That personality. SharPeyton Manning is officially looking for his forever home!
This goofy boy is one of the most affectionate dogs his foster has ever met. He’ll happily shove his face into you for pets, grunt with excitement, do a quick zoomie, then come right back for more snuggles. He’s calm around other respectful dogs, quiet in the home, and incredibly easy to live with. His wrinkles require a little routine care, but he enjoys every second of the extra attention.
After everything he’s overcome, SharPeyton is healthy, happy, and ready to find the family he’s been waiting for. He is a playful, loving dog and done well with the dog play group. Loves to play chase around the backyard, but also has an off switch!

Opie
When Opie was found as a stray, he was underweight with a messy, unhealthy coat and very little confidence around handling. Look at him now!
This small-framed red Chow has gained healthy weight, grown his fur back, and become much more comfortable and confident with the people caring for him.
Opie is still looking for his forever home and would love a family ready to continue showing him how good life can be.

Zuko
Zuko is a handsome 5-year-old, 46-lb Chow who has been quietly showing his foster what a sweet guy he can be. This boy is food motivated, loves to cuddle, and is fully house trained! He has moderate energy and has shown a great ability to settle when needed. He’s also had no separation anxiety observed while in his foster home.
Like many Chows, Zuko has boundaries that deserve to be respected. He is currently hesitant about having his head and neck touched, so his future family will need to understand his communication and give him the time and space he needs to build trust.
Zuko is looking for someone who will see the wonderful dog underneath the boundaries—and respect him enough to let that relationship grow.
Zuko is currently being fostered in Oklahoma City, OK.
Holley
Meet Holley! She has the looks of a Tootsie Roll and the enthusiasm of the perfect adventure buddy. If your ideal day includes walking, running, hiking, or exploring somewhere new, Holley would love to tag along.
Holley is one of the Motor Club Pups and has been surrounded by love since day one. She was born in her foster home, where she and her siblings have grown up together, playing, exploring, and enjoying puppyhood.
These days, Holley has become best buddies with Swift, another Houston Chow Chow Connection pup from a different litter. With her high energy and play drive, we require Holley go to a home with another playful dog companion!
Holley is ready to find an active family that will embrace her playful personality and include her in life's adventures. If you're looking for a loyal sidekick who will keep you smiling, Holley just might be your perfect match. She’s ready to go, go, go!

Azu
When this handsome guy arrived as a stray, he was very much a “I’ll decide when we’re friends” kind of Chow—aloof, cautious, and clear about his boundaries.
And look at him now:
- Comfortable being woken and petted in his crate
- Enjoying full-body pets and belly rubs
- Still head-shy, but increasingly trusting
- Increasingly comfortable coexisting with other dogs—though not a play buddy
For a dog who once guarded his personal space so carefully, these are **huge steps.** There’s still more to learn, including his discomfort with some men. We’ll keep listening to him and letting trust happen at his pace.
For now, we’re celebrating: one patient Chow-savvy human and one boy learning that his boundaries can be respected—and maybe people can be trusted.

Bobcat
Bobcat is the kind of dog who keeps life interesting. Equal parts goofy, independent, and charming, he's looking for a home that can match his energy and appreciation for adventure.
When Bobcat first arrived, shelter stress and boredom likely played a big role in his behavior. As he's settled into foster care, his true personality has come shining through.
Today, he's a happy, silly boy who loves attention, enjoys playtime, and has become increasingly affectionate with the people he trusts. One of his favorite hobbies? Bringing rocks to his people and insisting they be thrown. Balls are fine. Sticks are okay. But rocks? Those are the real prize. (PSA: No rocks were swallowed in the training of this pup!)

Bobcat is a classic Chow in many ways. He enjoys companionship but also likes doing his own thing. The bond you build with him feels earned, making those moments when he asks for affection even more special.
His ideal home will be one that keeps him mentally and physically engaged. Whether that's walks, hikes, training, yard time, or daily adventures, Bobcat is happiest when he's included and has an outlet for his energy. Bobcat is ready for a family that appreciates his personality, respects his independence, and is excited to make him part of their everyday adventures.

Rizzy
If you're looking for a young Chow with a sweet, gentle nature, Rizzy may be your girl. At just 1 year old and 44 pounds, Rizzy is a quiet companion who loves affection once she knows you're a friend. Neck scratches are her favorite, and she'll happily lean against you for attention and love. She also enjoys being around other dogs and is always interested in making new canine friends.

Personality:
Rizzy is a classic young Chow—gentle, observant, and thoughtful. She prefers to take a little time getting to know new people and can be shy when approached by strangers. She may bark or huff at unfamiliar people at first, but once she feels comfortable, her sweet personality quickly comes through.
She is currently knocking leash training out of the park and becoming more confident around new people. Every day she continues to show just how loving and affectionate she can be with those she trusts! Rizzy is looking for a family that appreciates the special bond Chows are known for—one built on trust, patience, and loyalty.

Zakk Wyld
Zakk is a handsome 7-year-old, 46-lb Chow with a BIG personality and an even bigger love for balls and toys! He’s housebroken, well behaved, affectionate without being overly needy, and loves ear and chin scratches.
Zakk came to rescue after a stressful experience at animal control. He spent most of his life as an only dog with limited exposure to the world, so he does best with people who understand canine communication, respect his boundaries, and don't push him into situations that make him uncomfortable.
The Bottom Line on Zakk:
People: Happy, friendly, affectionate, and has had no issues with his foster family.
Dogs: Selective and needs careful introductions and supervision. He doesn't seek conflict, but may get grumbly when another dog pesters or crowds him. He's improved with his foster's dogs, but we haven't had enough opportunity to know whether he'd thrive living with another dog.
Home: An experienced, Chow-savvy home that understands canine communication and gives him space to adjust would be ideal. A home where he doesn't have to constantly navigate other dogs may be his best fit.
Fun factor: Zakk LOVES toys and balls. He'll even jump up on the window when he wants to see what's happening outside.
Zakk doesn't need someone to “fix” him. He needs someone who understands him—someone who won't punish him for communicating that he's uncomfortable, who introduces new situations thoughtfully, and who lets him build trust at his own pace.
In return, you're getting a sweet, fun, housebroken Chow who loves his people, LOVES his toys, and has plenty of personality. Zakk is ready for a home that appreciates who he is, respects his boundaries, and lets him be the goofy boy who thinks every day should include a ball.
